TENUTE RUBINO, TORRE TESTA, SALENTO ROSSO, IGT, PUGLIA, ITALY, 2016
This is a classy, late harvest Susumaniello. One of the first wines from the Susumaniello project, Torre Testa is already an icon. It shows good acidity and fine tannins. Garnet red, complex notes of black cherry, kirsch, blackcurrant and blueberry jam.
With seasoned cheeses such as Canestrato Pugliese DOP.
Tommaso Rubino, a firm believer in Salento's potential, acquired in the 1980's four separate estates to demonstrate the diversity of the region.
Jaddico, Marmorelle, Uggio and Punta Aquila stretch from the Adriatic coast to the hinterland of Brindisi. Tommaso's goal was to show Salento wine at it's very best and through the diverse range that his family now offer, made from local varietals like the fascinating Susamaniello and more well known ones such as Primitivo, they are well on their way.
Jaddico vineyards on sandy soils at sea level. Spurred cordon trained with 5,500 vines per ha.
Fermentation in stainless steel at 22 to 24° C, 16 days maceration and malolactic fermentation. Aging for 12 months in french oak barrique.
